Learn to Fly

Gliders are like surfboards of the sky

It takes skill and understanding of the invisible forces at play

10 Flight Short Courses are available

10 Flight Courses are for people to try gliding to see if it is really what they want.

 Short course cost is $1000

Short courses using aero-tow launching can be arranged to provide up to 10 flights within

30 consecutive days under the Air Experience Flight limitations.

Ideally the 10 flight should be conducted within a week so the flying skills can develop and consolidate.

2 of the 10 short course flights may be winch launches for the student to experience that form of launching.

Included in the maximum 10 flights is up to 4.5 hours total flying time and temporary club membership.

Ideally, instructional flights are between 20 to 30 minutes but if weather permits a (longer duration) short distance cross country flight may be possible.

This provides a good ratio between soaring and takeoff and landing practice. Total flight time may be reduced due to weather conditions.

If a short course student wishes to continue training, they will eligible for a 20% discount on club annual membership.

If you want to learn to glide, you will need to join the club. All club instructors give their time and knowledge for free, so the cost of learning is the same as the cost of flying at the usual club rate which is cheaper than Air Experience Flight (AEF) rates.

While instructors give their time for free, it is in their interest and that of students, to keep the total training to a minimum. For this reason, first time gliding students are required to do initial training using aero-tow launches before moving on to winch launching.  Others with previous gliding experience or power flying experience may be able to move directly to winch launching.

Glider training using aero-tow allows students to develop the ‘stick and rudder’ skills to properly control the glider which then allows more efficient development of take off and landing skills.
